BOON FRP 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 5th at WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

Jim Hunt (Purple Sails) took the 2009 Winter Championships held at Grafham Water on Saturday 31st of January. It was a very hard fought day in winds gusting to force 6 and desperately low temperatures.

Charlie Cumbley 4986 took the first race of the day in his new Boon solo launched for the first time on the day. David McGregor 4833 also in a Boon took the 2nd race in an increasing breeze displaying awesome upwind pace, (he collects his new boat this week). The third race saw the ever consistent Jim Hunt 4985 who needed the race win, to dig deep and take the race from David McGregor to win overall with a 1st and 2nd to count, equal on points to David but won on count back. Charlie Cumbley took 3rd   with a win and a 4th to count, Chris Brown 4983 also had an excellent day and took 5th overall with pace allround in his new Boon FRP.  Boon Boats won all three races and finished 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th. This has been a great start to the 2009 season further building on the successes of 2008.

Update 10th November 2008
Charlie Cumbley took an emphatic win at the End of Season Championships held at Draycote on Saturday November 8th 2008.  Sailing Boon Solo 4864 (recently traded in to us against a new Boon Solo), he took the event comfortably with 2 race wins.  David McGregor sailing a Boon FRP 4832 narrowly missed out on 2nd place on the final leg of the last race, finishing 3rd overall.  The day provided winds of force 4 to 5 which presented a chilly and challenging close to the season. David McGregor, Chris Brown & Charlie Cumbley will all be sailing brand new Boon FRP Solos in 2009

Update 25th July '08
The event proved an outstanding success for BoonBoats, with overall victory going to Charlie Cumbley (4858), having led the event from day 1 in a week of dramatically varying conditions, Charlie showed pace across the board and outstanding consistency to finish the week overall winner with a race to spare. CONGRATULATIONS CHARLIE!

Congratulations also go to individual race winners; David McGregor (4832) with 2 back to back race wins; Peter Hammond (4940) 1 race win in his new acquired Boon FRP launched 1 week before the event!

Results achieved by above 3 boats overall: 6 race wins, 2 x 2nds, 2 x 3rds, 1 x 4th, 3 x 5ths.

Update 1st July '08
Congratulations to David McGregor (4832) one of our first FRP customers on his outstanding performance winning all 8 races to be crowned the 2008 Nations Cup Champion. David used the latest North Technora Sail and a D+ rig.

Update 29th June '08
Jim Hunt sailing Boon FRP Solo 4859 dealt a crushing blow to the opposition winning all 3 races on Saturday in winds up to 29 knots, another 1st on Sunday followed by a 2nd, taking victory overall. Sailing our Boon FRP hull, together with a D+ rig and a Purple Dacron Sail, this proved to be an outstanding combination with devastating pace. Well done Jim!

Update 17th June '08
Congratulations to our following Solo sailors who gained great results at the Inlands at Rutland in their Boon Solos. The event proved to be quite testing (for me anyway!) with varying wind conditions. Congratulations; Charlie Cumbley with 4th place overall & a race win, David McGregor 5th overall, David Liddington 17th overall & Grand Master, Chris Goswell 28th overall and also won the Plate Series. I didn't to do badly myself (having not sailed a boat for 12 months!) with 26th overall!

Not forgetting, Ollie Dumbleton who, although not at the Inlands, had a great result himself, with the birth of a baby daughter, Harriet, on Friday. Congratulations Ollie & family

Update April 12th 2008
The second major Solo class championship of 2008 (Spring Championship) was held at Oxford Sailing Club on Saturday 12th April, with a turnout of 48 Solos sailing in very breezy & testing conditions. Th event was won by Charlie Cumbley the 2008 Winter Champion (4858) followed closely with a solid 2nd place won by David MacGregor (4832), using the new D+ rig & North Technora Sails.

The 1st race saw Charlie first round the windward mark and lead convincingly by a large margin to the finish line. The 2nd race, having recovered from a capsize on the start line, Charlie sliced his way through the fleet with outstanding boat speed to finish 2nd on the line. David MacGregor had a superb 2nd race leading comfortably and despite a capzise on the last run, recovered to take the win. Fantastic spectating!!!

Congratulations to Charlie & David on their 1st & 2nd places respectively. Click here for the full story on Yachts and Yachting.

update Feb 2nd 2008
The 2008 season has opened with a top result at the Winter Championships held at Grafham Water Sailing Club. Charlie Cumbley sailing his new BOON FRP SOLO won the event with 2 race wins to take the title for 2008. Charlie took the title from amongst the top flight of the Solo class in his first competitive outing. Sailing 4858 in the standard trim supplied, Charlie showed excellent pace allround to see off the competition. Charlie will be out on the circuit at all the main events this season accompanied from time to time by Jamie lea. Well done Charlie!

Race wins at the 2007 Inlands and at the Nationals with my first 2 boats in the hands of Jim Hunt & Jamie Lea finishing in the top 5 overall, plus Charlie Cumbley winning the Winters 2008 has provided us with a strong demand resulting in a very healthy order on going order book.

We would also like to welcome back our "wooden" customers who have decided to make the transition to FRP and also welcome our new customers.
